Build your own deer movement forecast from temperature, fronts, wind, the rut, moon phase and solunar windows, and pick the best days to hunt this week.
Every hunter wants to know the same thing: will deer move tomorrow? A deer movement forecast tries to answer it by scoring the conditions that make deer get up and walk in daylight. No forecast is perfect, but some days really are better than others, and you can learn to spot them.
Score each day you can hunt:
| Factor | Points |
|---|---|
| Temperature 5°F+ below the recent average | +3 |
| Day after a cold front, rising pressure | +2 |
| Rut seeking or chasing phase in your area | +2 |
| Wind under 12 mph (20 km/h) | +1 |
| Solunar window overlapping sunrise or sunset | +1 |
| Solunar day rating of 3–4 stars | +1 |
7–10: take the day off. 4–6: a good sit, hunt the best window. 0–3: scout, hang stands, or hunt a sanctuary edge in the evening only.
The forecast tells you which day. Deer feeding patterns tell you which hours: dawn, dusk, and a midday bout in the rut. Deer feeding times covers that daily rhythm.
Then use the Solunar dial to find the window that lines up with first or last light. When the app shows a sun stack on a high-rated day, that is the sit to plan the week around. For legal shooting light and sunrise/sunset planning, read best hunting times today.
In the Solunar app, the Forecast tab shows a heatmap of the next 30 days, hour by hour. Glance at it on Sunday evening, cross it with the weather forecast, and you'll know which mornings deserve the alarm clock. Save your stands and leases as spots: each gets its own rating for its exact position.
No app or forecast can see deer. Local food sources, acorn crop, crop harvest, predators and your own scent control matter more than any single number. Use the forecast to rank your days, then hunt smart. For the evidence behind moon-based timing, read does solunar theory work?.
